Horse-racing was the first form of gambling to be legalized, when pooled (pari-mutuel) betting was made legal in 1982. There are currently 3 major horse racing tracks in Oklahoma, which later benefited from class 2 slots – becoming ‘racinos’. Charity gambling including bingo and raffle type games was legalized 10 years later. Oklahoma Gambling and State Lottery Laws States that allow gambling or operate an official state lottery use the proceeds either for the general fund or for specific purposes.
Tribal lands soon became a shining beacon for casino lovers, and as of 2019 there are more than 100 active casinos operating within the Sooner State. These places accept casino and poker customers, and indeed some of the world’s biggest poker tournaments take place in Oklahoma.
In 2013, the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes tried to set up a legal casino website within the state, but they were denied permission.
Sports gambling hasn’t followed the casino path, however, and there are currently no bills slated to go in front of the Oklahoma Senate. Daily Fantasy Sports are not legal or illegal, but the big companies are free to trade within the state.
Residents in the state are allowed to purchased tickets for the Oklahoma lottery at authorized vendors but there is no option to do this over the internet.
