The former Portuguese colony, Daman and Diu is home to India’s first land-based integrated resort and casino outside the state of Goa. Daman is home to Deltin Daman, a property across 10 acres of land. With state-of-the-art facilities, the Deltin casino has a 60,000 square feet of gambling space, more than 30 table games and multiple gaming machines.

The Goa government has increased the license fee for new land-based casinos by up to 2 crore rupees (8,862) based on the size of the casino, local media reports. The under-secretary of the home department, Neetal Amonkar in a notification issued recently said a land-based casino with an area up to 100 square meters will have to pay 3.5 crore rupees as a casino licence fees. Even in Goa, the live action is restricted to off-shore or floating casinos and while there are land-based casinos, only electronic gaming machines are allowed to operate in there. Now the focus of this article is to provide information to those players either within or outside India who wish to visit a legal venue in Goa in order to play some. As gambling is a an under-penetrated industry in India, Delta Corp has secured a prime position in the the Indian gaming and entertainment industry.
Gambling is a state subject in India. Every state government is entitled to impose laws in order to regulate gambling activities in their respective state. Indian law classifies these games into two types: Game of chance or game of skill. Gambling regulations in India are stringent, and only three states have legalized gambling on their territory. Due to the prevalence of Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act of 1976, Land-based and offshore casinos are active in Goa, Diu & Daman and Sikkim.
The gambling industry in India is growing rapidly that it is expected to reach INR 250 billion by 2024. It is four times more than it generated in 2019 when the figures reached INR 62 billion. Although, the government has still not made gambling legal across the country, the Industry has brought a lot of benefits to the Indian economy, as a whole. Legalizing would prevent illegal games and improvised casinos would bring significant revenue. Gambling is an ancient activity practised by Indians and it is unlikely that it would go out of fashion any day. However, casinos strictly do not admit local players, and it has been mandated for tourists only.
